With Siri
Say «Hey Siri, DashReset». Siri runs shortcuts by name, also through CarPlay and your headset.
On iPhone no app is allowed to turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off and on — but Apple’s Shortcuts app can. In two minutes you build the DashReset shortcut: one tap, or «Hey Siri, DashReset», and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth restart, like a reboot does for the connection.
The five actions of the shortcut
Wireless CarPlay uses Bluetooth to start and Wi-Fi to carry the picture. When one of the two gets stuck, turning both off and on again usually brings CarPlay back without restarting the whole iPhone. iOS doesn’t let apps do that — but Shortcuts, Apple’s own app already on your iPhone, can.
Open the Shortcuts app. It’s already on your iPhone; if you deleted it, it’s free on the App Store.
Tap + to create a new shortcut and name it DashReset.
Tap Add Action, search for Wi-Fi and choose Set Wi-Fi. Set it to Off.
Add Set Bluetooth and set it to Off.
Add Wait and set it to 4 seconds.
Add Set Bluetooth again and set it to On.
Add Set Wi-Fi again and set it to On. Tap Done: the shortcut is ready.
Pick the way that suits you best — you can set up all of them.
Say «Hey Siri, DashReset». Siri runs shortcuts by name, also through CarPlay and your headset.
Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap → Double Tap → DashReset. Two taps on the back of the iPhone and it runs.
On iPhones with the Action button: Settings → Action Button → Shortcut → DashReset. Or add it as a widget on the Home or Lock Screen.
If CarPlay often drops during the ride, the iPhone can run DashReset by itself right after a disconnection.
In Shortcuts open the Automation tab and tap +.
Choose CarPlay, then Disconnects.
Select Run Immediately and tap Next.
Choose the DashReset shortcut. Done.
It also runs when you switch the vehicle off on purpose: nothing bad happens, but if it bothers you, turn the automation off in the same tab.
Three things that fix wireless CarPlay for many people.
Yes: the shortcut uses only Apple’s standard actions and runs on your iPhone. There’s nothing to download and it sends no data anywhere.
Yes, with any wireless CarPlay screen: car stereos, motorcycle screens (Carpuride, Chigee, Aoocci and similar) and wireless adapters.
Because iOS doesn’t allow any app to turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off and on, or to close other apps. On Android it’s possible, and there DashReset is a full app.
On Android DashReset is a full free app: it also force-stops Android Auto, clears its cache and can reset by itself during the ride.
